Passagaclia

(2000)

This is one of my earliest compositions, and the one to which I have the strongest connection. It was commissioned by the Tel-Aviv Trio for their Louvre Museum debut. Despite its title, the form of the piece differs from the traditional Passacaglia, and it is rather a Passacaglia-Metamorphosis, where the theme undergoes a series of variations and permutations, until it is no longer recognized by the listener.  To me, the dismantling of the theme and the constant morphing of the musical material makes the piece emotionally powerful.
